The founders
The challenge
Agriculture is one of the most carbon-emitting sectors, but also one of the few sectors capable of sequestering CO₂ on a large scale. However, few solutions exist to measure, model and monetize this potential. Farmers and major agri-food buyers lack reliable, integrated carbon management tools that are reliable, integrated and adapted to the operational challenges of the value chain.
The activity
Carbone Farmers is developing a SaaS platform to model emissions, measure carbon performance at the farm level, and generate carbon credits that are traceable, certifiable and aligned with international standards. Their offer is based on two complementary modules. Farmgate supports farmers in carbon monitoring in the field, credit management and decision support. Metrics models emissions and sequestration over 5 to 10 years, thus facilitating the financing of agricultural transitions. By addressing both producers and major agri-food customers, the platform supports the structural transformation of the food chain towards a low-carbon and resilient model.
The impact
At the beginning of 2022, Carbone Farmers had less than 150 user farmers. At the end of 2024, more than 1,000 people used the solution. The company has signed with more than 40 corporate clients, including Sanofi, Terreos, Terreos, Axereal and Lactalis, and is already structuring multi-year contracts on local compensation, such as with La Poste. The Carbone Farmers approach contributes to the reduction of agricultural emissions, soil resilience, and the transparency of carbon credits, by integrating traceability requirements from the early stages of transition projects. Within 5 years, their ambition is to convert 800,000 hectares of agricultural land to low-carbon practices, and to sequester more than one million tons of CO₂ in the soil.
What we liked
We invested very early on, in 2023, via our parent company LGH, when the company generated less than €100k in turnover. founder. This convinced us: a clear vision, a robust technical platform, and a very well executed go-to market in a sector that is difficult to access. Carbone Farmers is laying the foundations of tomorrow's agricultural carbon infrastructure, which is both reliable, transparent and has a high potential for standardization.
