The challenge

Despite decades of efforts, waste sorting remains inefficient in many territories, hampered by the lack of field data and by the absence of appropriate tools to detect, understand and correct sorting errors. Both local authorities and collection operators face a real operational blind spot, limiting the environmental impact of their waste management policies.

The activity

Ficha is developing embedded visual AI technology to automatically detect sorting errors at the source. Its flagship product, Camia, is a smart camera mounted on collection trucks, capable of analyzing the contents of yellow bins in real time. Cocon, its second product, is a connected trash can designed for low-performance areas (condominiums, urban centers), which offers a local solution to reinforce sorting pedagogy. The data collected is translated into detailed reports, intended for sorting ambassadors as well as operators, in order to guide awareness-raising efforts and improve overall performance. Ficha is thus positioned as a B2B and B2G solution at the service of local authorities, public authorities and major operators.

The impact

In 2024, Ficha already equipped major players such as Suez, Paprec, Sepur or Sictom, but also the municipalities of Lyon and Annecy. The strategic framework agreement signed with Sepur paves the way for large-scale deployment. By allowing a concrete improvement in sorting performance, Ficha promotes the reduction of the environmental footprint, the increase in the rate of waste recovery and the achievement of circular economy objectives in the territories.
