Challenge

The challenge

Each year, between 20,000 and 30,000 hectares of land are artificialized in France, and the compensatory measures put in place are insufficient. In France as in Europe, infrastructure project developers must now integrate ecological compensation to obtain their authorizations. But the identification of land suitable for the restoration of biodiversity remains an opaque, long and unreliable process, hampered by a lack of technological and structural tools.

Activity

The activity

Versant has designed a SaaS platform that makes it possible to quickly and effectively identify land with high ecological restoration potential. To do this, the solution relies on a proprietary workflow (called CORE) that combines filtering algorithm, intelligent data aggregation and field analysis. The process is based on three key steps: - the automated exploration of databases (open source and proprietary such as ESA, NASA or IGN); - the multi-criteria aggregation of data (satellite images, biometric data, parcellation, etc.) to enrich the understanding of the terrain; - on-site calibration to guarantee the ecological feasibility of the project. This unique system allows Versant to provide reliable, actionable results that are compatible with regulatory requirements in record time.

Impact

The impact

Versant facilitates the integration of biodiversity from the design of projects. In less than a year, the solution has already identified more than 50 hectares of land eligible for restoration. It thus offers developers concrete leverage to meet their obligations while structuring an ambitious and sustainable environmental approach.

What we liked

What we liked

A robust technology, designed to meet a strong regulatory need, with a clear positioning in an emerging and strategic segment. The team, experts in ecology as well as in product development, was able to translate a complex issue into a concrete, fluid and operational solution.
